5 simple ways to #beconscious
As a social entrepreneurship venture, we constantly ask ourselves what it means to be a conscious consumer: how do the choices we make reflect our ideals, and how can they make a positive contribution to the world?
And sometimes...those choices stress us out. Am I a bad person if I forget my reusable shopping bag? Am I destroying the environment if I don't recycle my water bottle (or use a plastic water bottle at all)?
We're coming to the conclusion that to #beconscious is all about balance...making thoughtful decisions with the knowledge we have, and not beating ourselves up as we learn and grow...because life is one big classroom, isn't it?
Here are some of our favorite ways to #beconscious:
Hydrate thoughtfully. We’re obsessed with Soma’s beautiful water filters…and sustainability is part of their mission! Drink up.
Chic recycling: Ikea just launched a new line of throw pillows that are stuffed with their shredded catalogues. How’s that for conscious decor?
Go vegetarian one day per week. It requires 2,500 gallons of water to produce just 1 pound of beef…that’s a lotta agua!
Buy local! Support local farmers and food makers by shopping at farmers’ markets in your area. Buying directly from the source supports local businesses, lowers the carbon footprint of your food, and guarantees you’ll be eating well.
Lights out! It seems obvious, but little choices add up to big change. Turn out the lights when you leave a room, turn off your A/C and use a fan to keep your home or office cool, and switch off the water tap when you’re brushing your teeth. The environment (and your wallet!) will thank you.
